I can’t believe that I’ve been able to cover 5 Michigan games this season. Expect a longer post on that later.
I was not feeling on top of things before this game. There were a few extra logistics added to this weekend that aren’t normally part of my #gameday routine, and I had a few camera issues before the game. Thankfully it worked out (as things always do), but I was not in the best mindset going onto the field.
I won’t even mention the weather (I would like to have a word with whoever scheduled this game).
Something changed after pregame. I even found a good stride sooner than I typically do in games (lately it’s been taking me most of the first quarter to get in the groove of things).
During the first half, I was chatting with another photographer about the lack of female photographers on the field. Including the two of us, there were five women out of 20-30 media members scattered between the end zones. I’m not sure if this is what got me out of the funk Saturday, but it made me realize how impactful it is that I’m able to have a seat at this (metaphorical) table.
Though the imposter syndrome hasn’t gone away (let’s be honest — will it ever?), I’ve felt like I’ve really solidified my work this season and continued to achieve small goals I set for myself. At the end of the day, it’s all about getting better and feeling proud about the end result.
